Overview
The 4 days Volcanoes National Park tour will expose you to the remaining endangered mountain gorillas in Virunga mountains, trek the Dian Fossey graveyard and learn about the female primatologist researcher who saved a good number of gorillas from poachers, visit the twin lakes (lake Burera and Lake Ruhondo), take a boat cruise on lake kivu and an optional city tour in Kigali where places like the Rwanda genocide memorial centre, local markets, art and craft galleries and many more will be visited.
Day1: pickup from Kigali and head to Volcanoes National Park via the Twin Lakes
Visiting the volcanoes NP and be picked by the tour guide company who will be dressed in a full company uniform that will take you through a short briefing about this tour. Begin the safari to Volcano National Park a journey that will take 3-4 hours.
While on the way, visit the twin lakes of Burera and Ruhondo to take photos and create everlasting memories. Arrive in Volcano National Park a tour guide will take you to the head office for registration and then head to the lodge for accommodation.
Day2: gorilla tracking
The day starts with the breakfast at the lodge and then the driver guide will take to the park office for a briefing exercise. The briefing will help you to know the materials you need to have while in the field, the dos and don’ts to follow, cross-checking the gorilla tracking permit and many more.
Searching the gorillas will begin under the guidance of the armed park guide for protection in case of any animal attack. Meeting the gorillas gives you an opportunity to spend an hour following them and the whole experience can take about 5-6 hours while meeting other attractions like plants, birds, and many others. Head back to the office and receive the gorilla permits and procedure to the lodge for your accommodation and prepare for another day.
Day3: visiting the Dian Fossey graveyard and visit Lake Kivu for a boat cruise
Wake up and head to the starting point for briefing and then hike to Dian Fossey graveyard. While in the forest have a chance to meet mountain gorillas, golden monkeys and other primates accompanied by birds. Learn about the great history behind Dian Fossey and the gorilla institute she founded, and spot more of the wildlife as you create everlasting memories.
Later on, visit Lake Kivu the biggest lake in Rwanda and take a boat cruise to enjoy the beautiful features as you capture memorable photos. Meet and interact with fishermen, you can swim or take a short nature walk at the edge of the lake.
Day4: head back to Kigali and city tour before drop-off at the airport
Transfer back to Kigali and have a short city tour where places like the genocide memorial grounds or centre, the local markets, art and gallery centres and many more will be visited. Be dropped at the airport and this will mark the end of your 4 days Volcanoes National Park.
